WhiteTopping is a type of concrete pavement overlay in which a layer of high performance concrete is applied directly on top of an existing asphalt pavement. The concrete layer consists of polypropylene fibres and CC100 admixture.
This technique is very beneficial for roadway rehabilitation projects and is designed to provide a strong, durable, and long-lasting surface.
The process typically involves the following steps:(I) Preparation: The existing asphalt surface is milled to level the asphalt layer and to create a bond of concrete with the asphalt layer
(II) Concrete overlay: The layer of concrete is applied with minimum thickness of 100mm to the prepared asphalt surface. The thickness of the concrete overlay will depend on the expected traffic requirement.
(III) Finishing: The concrete overlay brushed finished using a broom brush. Advantages of Whitetopping:
(I) Durability: Concrete is stronger and more durable than asphalt, providing a longer service life and better resistance to heavy loads and harsh weather conditions.
(II) Lower maintenance cost: Concrete requires less maintenance than asphalt, reducing the need for costly repairs and minimizing disruption to traffic flow.
